Darkroom tents have sure become popular over the past few years.
Staying cool and enhancing sleep duration is sure grabs peoples attention!
But do they work?
Only if you choose the correct tent and company.
Keep reading to find out the truth…
So do they work...
Most companies tell you that a blackout tent will stay cooler in hot weather.
However, that’s not always the case.
After extensive research and testing, I found that it all depends on the tent you buy. Some blackout tents are second to none, providing a cooler environment and blocking sunlight.
However, others are subpar.
You can find my personal darkroom tent recommendation at the end of this article.
What Are Blackout Tents
Blackout tents are designed to keep cool during the hot summer months.
They are also used for other purposes such as protection from the sun during outdoor projects, promoting a better sleep environment, and are even used at music festivals.
They work by using reflective material on the outside. This material helps to keep the tent cool by deflecting the sun’s rays.
Why You Should Get A Blackout Tent
Blackout tents help you sleep for longer, which is always better. They can also help promote better sleep due to the shade provided.
Why?
Because you’re not going to wake up halfway through a deep sleep due to sunlight. According to NIOSH, limiting light early in the morning helps your sleep cycles [1].
Plus, for the camping activity junkies, a good night of rest is essential!
Otherwise, you won’t have the energy to keep going the following day, right!?
And Here's Why You Shouldn't Get One...
There are a few reasons you might not want to get a blackout tent.
One reason is that they don’t always keep you cool.
You have to choose the right tent. Some tents may not offer the correct amount of blackout technology, making it difficult to get some shut-eye.
Alternatively, you could end up purchasing from an unreliable company with overexaggerated products.
Uses Of A Blackout Tent
Camping In The North Of The World
Did you know some countries have sunlight 24 hours per day?
These countries are based in the north of the Arctic circle. Or south of the Antarctic circle.
Check them out below…
- Fairbanks
- St Petersberg, Russia
- Parts of Norway
- Reykjavik, Iceland
- Helsinki, Finland
A blackout tent is a must-have if you’re planning to camp in these locations.
Unless you can sleep through sunlight, which most of us cant.
We’re not all superhuman, my friend.
Festivals
One reason to use a blackout tent at festivals is for a hangover. The last thing you need is the sun beating down on you after a night of drinking.
Darkroom tents also provide shade, as festivals typically occur in open spaces.
In addition, you’ll experience deeper sleep. And that means more energy to continue partying the following day.
Camping With Kids
Let’s be honest…
Having kids can be stressful.
But dealing with kids when they are tired? No thanks!
Using a blackout tent will help them sleep better.
And better sleep equals a better mood, so you don’t have to deal with morning grogginess.
What Is The Best Darkroom Tent?
After researching and testing various tents, I have to say…
The Coleman Dome Tent for Camping is the best blackout tent on the market.
It combines the best of both worlds: being completely bug-proof and helping you sleep for longer.
In addition, the screen room is the perfect place to hang out and enjoy a cold drink. Why not add some tables and chairs? I sure would!
Conclusion
Some blackout tents do work. However, doing your research is essential, as some companies overhype their products.
With that being said, you can’t go wrong with the Coleman Dome tent.
Happy camping.
